Gerald O’Flynn
Early Life
Gerald was born and bred in Cork City, Ireland. He always had an avid interest in music and from an early age was eager to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter. Like all music lovers, he developed his interest by listening to music programmes on the radio, cds etc.
His early musical influences came from such bands and artists like The Beatles, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Billy Joel, Kenny Rogers, Don McLean, The Hollies, Freddie and The Dreamers, Don Williams and others.
Career
Gerald launched his music career with his debut single “Our Last Rendezvous” and “Hush Little Baby” in November 1991. He enjoyed considerable success with this single. It spent 8 weeks in the Irish Top 20 Music Charts, including 3 weeks in the Top 10. Hush Little Baby/Our Last Rendezvous was once described by top Irish radio DJ Larry Gogan as the best double A-sided debut single he had heard at the time.
Both tracks were written by Gerald himself. “Our Last Rendezvous” received huge airplay on RTE and local radio stations. Gerald made his debut TV performance performing this song on former daytime TV show, “Live At Three”. He followed this up with an appearance on the once popular twice weekly show “Nighthawks” performing another of his self-penned songs “Isn’t that the way it happens”.”
Gerald currently has 6 albums released. Five of these albums are based on Ireland’s best loved songs. These include songs like Phil Coulter’s composition “Scorn Not His Simplicity”, Eric Bogle’s “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” and of course, “The Banks Of My Own Lovely Lee”. His latest album “Where Do We Go From Here?” includes many fine tracks, such as “Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind”, “When Autumn Leaves Fall” and the ever popular “The Girl With The Blossom In Her Hair”.
